Disability Drive and Thrive Expo 2013

SAAF Museum – Air Force Base Swartkops

Curamus, in association with Rolling Rehab, shall be hosting South Africa’s first ever interactive Driving Expo for people with physical disabilities.

People with physical disabilities usually depend on their family and friends to provide transport.  A lack of public transport, limited finances and poor self-esteem, coupled with limited general awareness of suitable vehicles and adaptations, fosters an endless cycle of dependence.

Disability Drive and Thrive shall provide an opportunity for social interaction and knowledge sharing.  Disabled people, who wish to learn how to live with their disability, shall be able to mine the wisdom of others who have found solutions for living a full and active life.

The day shall provide opportunities for social interaction, test driving of vehicles, practical demonstrations as well as an exhibition of products and services that are available to people with disabilities, mainly focussed on driving and mobility.

The event shall also provide an affordable marketing opportunity for many small companies that have taken up the challenge of creating solutions for the disability sector.  Exhibitors have been requested to provide discounts on orders placed at the event (and for 30 days thereafter) in lieu of exhibition fees.

Do the current interventions and road safety initiatives with respect to the Four E's in South African context, sufficiently and appropriately address DUI?

JPSA has strong views on this topic and is delighted to be participating in this discussion. We hope to bring meaningful food for thought to the topic.
